The Department of Philosophy and Linguistics at Umeå University, Sweden has
35 employees, including 6 professors, 15 senior researchers and teachers,

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree and have competence in the
discipline of the PhD programme to which they are applying that is
equivalent of the Swedish 'magister' degree. That is the equivalent of two
year's full-time study in the discipline at undergraduate level or a
post-graduate Master degree in the discipline.
The PhD programmes are the equivalent of four years of full-time study.
During the period of the studentship, the student is a full tax-paying
employee of the University. The starting taxable salary is currently SEK
18100 per month (ca 2000 per month).
The first period of employment is for one year. The employment contract
can then be renewed for at most two years at a time, up to a total of four
years, or, if the PhD student accepts teaching or administrative duties at
the department (not exceeding 20 percent of full time) maximally five
years. Renewal is dependent upon satisfactory progression of the degree.

transcripts, copies of final year undergraduate project/dissertation
reports, a copy of your Master's dissertation (if appropriate), copies of
any published papers (indicate if peer-reviewed or not), a research
proposal (max 5 pages), and other supporting documents that demonstrate
your suitability to be a research student (e.g. sealed confidential
reference letters).
