28 February: Trinity College Postgraduate Scholarships
Index of February 2005 | Index of year: 2005 | Full index
This is to let you know that the current postgraduate studentship related to
teaching (code 1228) has been recently repackaged in terms of some of its
privileges to enhance its competitiveness internationally in attracting
applicants especially from overseas to the research register in TCD.
These amendments were approved by the Finance Committee and Council last
week at a cost neutral factor to College which means that the current annual
number of pg studentships of 100 has been reduced to 50 per year (for all
the faculties) but
a) all successful applicants (i.e. paying either EU and non-EU fees) have
full fee remission and
b) the maintenance goes up for each awardee to \2008,000.
The amended studentship is now called Postgraduate Research Studentship
(cost neutral) and its code is 1252. It becomes available immediately for
new entrants to the full-time research register from October 2005 onwards.
There is a new application form for this award which is available on the web
http://www.tcd.ie/Graduate_Studies/g-admisn.htm
All applicants for entry in October'05 who have applied to date with the old
award application form will be automatically considered for the new
studentships.
The number of awards to be allocated to each faculty will be based on the
same principle of proportionality of research students registered per
faculty the previous academic year. I will let you know the exact number of
faculty allocations shortly.
All the other privileges and conditions of the current pg studentship remain
unchanged i.e. the new pg research studentship is also related to teaching
and subject to the same Guidelines and income limit, closing date for
consideration for the first round of awards remains 1 May, late applications
may still be considered if there are vacancies after the closing date, the
award is payable monthly via the Staff Office.
This means that the current holders of the postgraduate studentship (code
1228) will continue unchanged until being phased out over the coming years.
I would appreciate if you inform the departments accordingly.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
With kind regards,
Ewa
