There is an opportunity to do a PhD at the Department of Computing
Science, University of Aberdeen in collaboration with Aerospace and
Marine International (AMI) (http://www.amiwx.com/html/services.html) on
the following project:
We are interested in developing techniques for automatically generating
advisory texts which assist in ship and vehicle routing.
AMI has many years of experience in providing routing services to the
maritime industry. Vehicle routing is a new application AMI is
interested in exploring. For example, they would like to produce vehicle
routing advice for local councils (e.g. Aberdeenshire council) for grit
and salting applications in the winter.
Both these applications will take as input numerical data about
geography and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP).
We also want to use Natural Language Generation (NLG) technology to
explain the routes to the users. The work will involve ?mining? large
amounts of pre-voyage prediction data and post-voyage recorded data.
If you are interested in the above industry-academic collaborative
project please email Dr Yaji Sripada, ssripada@csd.abdn.ac.uk
