stature specialising in one of the Romance languages French, spanish and
Italian, preferably Italian. A knowledge of comparative Romance linguistics
and the possession of teaching and research experience in that area will be
considered an advantage. The successful candidate's previous studies,
publications and teaching career will give evidence of a sound knowledge of
Romance linguistics. S/he will hold a doctorate on some topic within the
field or in a related discipline and will have a broad overview of the
field as a whole. In addition, s/he will have wide experience of university
teaching and of supervising doctoral and other students. Finally, the
successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a familiarity and affinity
with relevant ICT developments in the field of education and research.
International experience and academic mobility will also be seen as an
advantage.

Candidates will be expected to possess a fluent command not only of the
Romance language in which they specialise, but also of both Dutch and
English; any appointee lacking this level of linguistic competence will be
expected to acquire it within two years of taking up the post.

The appointee will have administrative responsibility for his/her own
section. First and foremost this will require inspiring and supportive team
leadership. In addition, s/he must be prepared to undertake general
administrative and organisational duties both within and outside the faculty.
