Research Assistant
Division/Program: Language Testing Division (LTD)
Hours per week: 35 hours per week (full time)
Position Available: July 1, 2005
Salary: $32,000 to $38,000 per annum FTE, depending upon qualifications
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Will be responsible for coordination and research support to three projects on the assessment of oral, reading and listening proficiency in English, Spanish and Arabic and training others to use such assessments. The projects involve entering data into databases, transcribing speech samples, working with contractors, coordinating meetings, administering listening, reading and oral proficiency tests, conducting research on technology and other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Entering data
*Transcribing English, Arabic or Spanish tests
*Administering oral proficiency tests
*Conducting research on technology relevant to project
*Maintaining physical and electronic files and databases
*Coding and analyzing data
*Initiating and maintaining correspondence with partners
*Assisting in development of training materials
*Creating and maintaining databases
*Assisting in correspondence and coordination with the Project Managers, Research Assistants, advisers and other persons involved in the projects
*Assisting in writing and editing research reports, articles, conference presentations and other project-related products
*Preparing information binders for meetings or trainings
*Conducting library, Internet searches and other research activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: B.A. Degree in Education, Psychology, TESOL, Arabic, Spanish, Linguistics or related field. M.A. preferred
Experience: Fluency in Arabic or Spanish preferred. Must have experience in Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint. Must be flexible, organized, attentive to detail, and be able to prioritize tasks from several projects.
Must be available for occasional travel to meetings or conferences.
