Jena, Germany, invites applications of researchers (at the doctoral and
post-doc level) in the field of information extraction and text mining
(major application areas are biology and medicine). The positions have a
minimum duration of three years and can be filled immediately.
Our work focuses on developing NLP methods for extracting biomedical
information from online literature and databases and building biomedical
knowledge bases and ontologies on the basis of automatic text analysis.
Position 1
(approx. 40,000 Euros/year, according to German public service pay scale):
Computational Linguist/NLP Researcher. Skills in one or more of the
following areas are required: text mining, information extraction,
statistical and ML-based NLP, named entity recognition, computational
lexicon development. The applicant should have programming skills in Java
and Perl as well as experience with XML. S/he should be able to acquire
relevant biomedical background knowledge during the duration of the
project. Knowledge/Experience in BioNLP is a definite asset. The applicant
has a degree either in computational linguistics or in computer science
with a reasonable NLP background.
Position 2
(approx. 40,000 Euros/year, according to German public service pay scale):
Biomedical Ontology Engineer. This position is targeted at an applicant
with a strong education background in biology or in medicine, with emphasis
on biology. The applicant is also expected to have considerable
qualifications related to bioinformatics or medical informatics. The
position profile also includes working knowledge in ontologies and formal
(description) logics, at least the willingness to acquire competence in
these areas.
Position 3
(approx. 30,000 - 40,000 Euros/year, according to German public service pay
scale, depending on qualifications):
Software Engineer/Programmer with NLP- or AI-oriented background. The
applicant should have experience in implementing, managing and testing
middle-sized software components and interfaces. Excellent software
engineering and programming skills (Java, XML) are essential as well as the
ability to manage and maintain project-related documentation in English.
The applicant is expected to take part in the text mining/information
extraction projects of the JULIE Lab. The applicant has a degree in
computer science.
Applicants should either be fluent in German or in English. Applicants
without German language competence are expected to acquire this skill on
the job.
