TWO PROFESSORSHIPS IN TRANSLATION AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION, AGDER
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, NORWAY
Agder University College invites applications for two permanent positions as
Professors in the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts at
Gimlemoen Campus, Kristiansand. This newly-built campus is beautifully situated
on the south coast of Norway.
At present, the Department of Translation Studies offers a three-year
bachelor's degree programme in translation. The programme is currently
under revision, and will be replaced by a programme in translation and
intercultural communication in the autumn of 2006. At the same time, plans
for a corresponding master's degree programme are being prepared.
The appointees will be full professors with research experience primarily
within one or several of the following areas: intercultural communication,
translation theory, terminology/language for special purposes, and/or
audiovisual translation. Other relevant areas of research are corpus
linguistics, language technology or text linguistics. For one of the posts,
qualifications in English will be required. For the other post,
qualifications in Norwegian will be preferred, but also other languages
will be considered. Command of a Scandinavian language will be an advantage.
In addition to the academic qualifications, applicants should have relevant
teaching experience as well as administrative and inter-personal skills.
If an applicant is unable to document formal teaching qualifications, the
applicant may be appointed on the condition that such qualifications are
obtained within a given period stipulated by the Faculty.
The employment policy of the Norwegian state aims at a balance in cultural
background, age and gender that reflects the general population; women and
persons from underrepresented minorities are therefore encouraged to apply.
The salary for a professor will be in the range of NOK 446,100—529,100,
from which mandatory state pension deductions will be made.
Applications should be submitted in English or a Scandinavian language and
include a CV and certified documentation of degrees and testimonials in
four copies, together with three copies of maximum 15 selected scholarly
works, and a complete list of works.
