Research Assistant/SIOP Staff Developer

Division/Program: Language, Education and Academic Development Division (LEAD) SIOP/Sheltered Instruction
Hours per week: Full time preferred (up to 35 hrs/wk)
Salary: mid $30,000 to mid $40,000, annualized FTE, depending upon qualifications
Position Available: Immediately at CAL offices in Washington, D.C.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Provide research assistance to the Division Director and Project Coordinators on SIOP/sheltered instruction, adolescent literacy development, teacher development, and other areas related to English language learners and their teachers at pre K-12. Conduct professional development workshops and ongoing programs.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
1. Assist in planning, coordination and implementation of research and professional development projects
2. Collect, synthesize and analyze data
3. Assist in writing, production and dissemination of reports, conference proceedings, papers, articles, and other products through a variety of media
4. Present at workshops and conferences
5. Maintain and update project files
6. Correspond with co-researchers, other colleagues, project teachers, and others as needed
7. Respond to inquiries about projects from external sources
8. Assist in proposal development
9. Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: M.A. Degree in language related field

Experience: Research and professional development experience required. Need familiarity/experience with US elementary and/or secondary schools and ESL programs. Must have good writing and organizational skills, Excel database skills, and be able to work independently. Knowledge and experience with sheltered instruction preferred.

NOTE: Travel required.
