Pending final approval, two positions are available in the research project
'Argument Encoding in Morphology and Syntax', funded by the DFG (German
Research Foundation) as part of a new DFG research unit 'Grammar and
Processing of Verbal Arguments' (Forschergruppe 742). The positions start
March 1, 2006 (or later) and last three years, with the option of another
three years after successful completion of the first project phase.
The first position is a full-time post-doctoral BAT-O-IIa researcher
position in theoretical morphology. Applicants should have expertise in
current morphological theories (e.g., Distributed Morphology,
Word-and-Paradigm approaches) and Optimality Theory; and they should have a
good knowledge of minimalist syntax.
The second position is a half-time BAT-O-IIa/2 position in theoretical
syntax. Applicants should have expertise in minimalist syntax, and should
be interested in the morphology/syntax interface. They must have an MA in
hand and are expected to carry out research for their dissertation in the
project.
Project description: Based on detailed case studies of systems of argument
encoding (by case or agreement) in a variety of typologically different
languages, the project team (Gereon Mueller, Fabian Heck, Jochen Trommer,
and the two researchers) will investigate the nature of inflectional
morphology in a minimalist approach to grammar. More information (in
German) is available at http://www.uni-leipzig.de/ae.pdf.
Applications via email are strongly encouraged. Applicants should send a CV
and one or two papers (only pdf files) to Gereon Mueller
