?B-Ontology? is a collaborative project between CENTAL, an NLP
research centre at the University of Louvain (Belgium), and the
Belgian national press agency Belga (http://www.belga.be). It is
funded by the Brussels Fund for Research and Development (IRSIB). The
objective is to build an information extraction system specialized in
biographical information extraction and management. The information
system will be accessible to Belga journalists as a source of
information and a productivity tool. It will be fully integrated in
the Belga workflow so that all incoming and outgoing press sources
(in French, Dutch and English) will be monitored.

To reinforce the B-Ontology research team, we are recruiting a post-
doc (up to 18 months).

The ideal candidate:
- has a PhD in Computational linguistics, Linguistics or
Computer science (or another close and relevant discipline).

- has experience in Ontologies and Information extraction (or sub
fields: Named Entities Recognition, Anaphora Resolution, etc.)

- is a good programmer, with relevant experience in programming
(C or C++, Java, Perl or Python, etc.)

- has a good knowledge of database engineering

- has a good understanding of the lexicon-grammar theory (M. Gross)

- has a good command of the Open-Source Linguistic platform
Unitex (http://www-igm.univ-mlv.fr/~unitex/)

- has a very good command of Dutch (writing and speaking: either
first language or high education degree), English and French.

- is a hard worker... has a good team spirit

The Post-doc will be mainly involved in:
- the design and development of the Dutch and English version
of the IE system;

- the design and the development of the Information System for
storing and managing the extracted biographical information (which
involves, DB & ontologies development);

- the conception and the development of the query interface;

- transfer of knowledge (i.e. advising and coaching younger
researchers)

The researcher will work at the University of Louvain, in a very
stimulating and challenging environment where he/she will collaborate
with the CENTAL team (10 people) and will be in close close contact
with the Belga team.
Duration of the contract: up to 18 months
