DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Center for Applied Linguistics is a leading
research and service organization, specializing in language learning,
literacy, and a full range of language and culture issues. We are
seeking a Senior Research Associate for the Language Education and
Academic Development Division to organize research on the education of
English language learners and the application of research in
professional development and technical assistance activities.

Manages and/or participates in projects in LEAD Conceptualizes,
designs, manages and conducts research, technical assistance, and
other projects on the education of English language learners
Participates in ongoing CAL research on topics like comparing
approaches to the education of English language learners, the SIOP
model, two-way immersion education, biliteracy development Organizes
activities needed to ensure the success of projects, such as needs
assessment, data collection and analysis, training workshops,
materials and curriculum development, assessment and evaluation,
personnel recruitment, writing, editing, dissemination of findings
Monitors the budget on projects where she/he is the director Prepares
or assists in preparation of final reports and dissemination of
findings Develops new project concepts and prepares proposals for
funding of new projects Make presentations at training sessions,
workshops, and professional conferences Contributes to a wide range of
activities addressing CAL's mission, including serving as a resource
for other staff, developing materials for diverse audiences,
responding to questions from the public, and representing CAL to
external groups Prepares proposals, including budgets, for new
projects Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Ph.D. degree in appropriate discipline.

Experience: Must have deep knowledge of research and policy on the
education of English language learners, including sheltered
instruction and bilingual education approaches. Must have at least
eight years of project leadership and research management experience
(writing proposals, designing and conducting research, publishing
research findings, organizing project staff, overseeing budgets,
etc.). Must have the ability to prioritize work on several projects at
the same time and have attention to detail. Must have experience
making presentations to professional and general audiences. Expertise
in research design and quantitative research methodology a plus, as is
K-12 classroom teaching experience. Knowledge of the SIOP model
preferred. In accordance with INS regulations, all successful
