Philosophy
**********

Digital media are changing almost every aspect of life in today¹s world,
whether we look at communication, work, or leisure time. However, the media
themselves, too, are subject to perpetual change, often at a rapid pace. In
order to learn to live with this process of flux, we have to acquire
skills which will enable us to adapt to future developments as well as to
contrive and shape our own futures, both professional and personal.

The goals of the Digital Media study program are manifold: to create
innovative and responsible forms of research and development of digital
media, to investigate ways and means of their utilization, and to assess
their cultural and social repercussions. In our attempts to attain these
ends, we combine computer science and art, merge the theoretical and the
practical, and join creativity with solid knowledge to reach beyond the
limits of a single educational institution.

We take responsibility to guide our students towards recognizing and
engaging in new ways and visions. Students will assimilate theoretical and
technical concepts and their applications through practical experience.

They will learn to increase their comprehension of the world of digital
media and thus become able to use and restyle them for their own
ambitions and interests.

The University of Bremen, Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Bremerhaven
University of Applied Sciences and University of the Arts, Bremen all
usefully combine scientific and artistic approaches, covering the ground
from theory to application. Special emphasis is placed on practical
experience and on international orientation: An internship and a
semester abroad are mandatory requirements of the bachelor program; good
English skills will be indispensable. In the Digital Media study program in
Bremen, scientific procedure, open thinking, and creative solutions form the
basis for the digital media of the future ‹ and for the future of our
students.
