Application Framework Engineering
The Applications Framework team creates advanced speech application
frameworks and components - these allow voice application developers to
rapidly build cutting edge applications that run on multiple platforms. This
is a J2EE environment, leveraging existing web infrastructure, standards,
tools and experience.
Senior Software Designer role description
As a senior software designer in the Applications Frameworks team, you will
work in the field of natural dialog systems and voice application framework
like Open Speech Dialog (OSD), Nuance's voice application framework. As part
of this role, you will be working on building applications platform
capabilities that leverage the most advanced speech and dialog technologies,
as well as J2EE application servers' capabilities for data and backend
integrations.
Responsibilities
Participate in the design, implementation, documentation, testing and
support of speech application framework and components, including runtime
components, tools, and application middleware components.
* Work closely with a Nuance team including software developers and
voice interface design experts.
* Assist in defining and reviewing the technical requirements for the
application, including security, integration, performance, quality and
operations
* You will deliver the technical designs and confirm the completeness
and consistency of the design deliverables
Credentials
The successful candidate must provide the following credentials:
* 7+ years industry experience in software design and development
* Strong knowledge of best design practices and Java patterns.
* 3 years of design and development experience in Java
* Bachelors or Graduate University degree in Electrical Engineering,
Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
* Fluent in English, both written and spoken
* Hands on experience in object oriented design & development
* Hands on experience with Java/J2EE design & development; with
JBoss, WebLogic or WebSphere and also with web GUI development, e.g. JSPs,
HTML/DHTML, CSS, JavaScript
* Hands on experience in XML document generation/parsing in Java,
e.g. JDOM, JaxB and related technologies like XPath, DOM, E4X; and with
common open source tools & frameworks
* Strong software/system trouble shooting skills
* Willingness to travel when/if required
* Knowledge of Voice User Interface concepts.
* Knowledgeable with speech science concepts.
Assets
The following are assets:
* Relevant experience in software design and development in projects
governed by a formal development process like Gate process and/or time to
market
* .NET and Clearcase knowledge
* Industry experience with speech recognition software
* VoiceXML development
* Telephony and voice communications
* Experience with the following application servers: JBoss, Tomcat,
Jetty, Websphere, Weblogic
* Experience with Nuance products
