The Jena University Language and Information Engineering (JULIE) Lab
(http://www.coling.uni-jena.de) at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena,
Germany, invites applications of researchers (at doctoral and post-doc level)
in the field of information extraction and text mining (major application areas
are biology and medicine). The position has a minimum duration of three years
and can be filled immediately.

Our work focuses on developing NLP methods for extracting biomedical information
from online literature and databases and building biomedical knowledge bases and
ontologies on the basis of automatic text analysis.

Computational Linguist/NLP Researcher (approx. 40,000 Euros/year, according to
German public service pay scale):
Skills in one or more of the following areas are required: text mining,
information extraction, named entity recognition, ontologies.
Knowledge/Expertise in statistical and ML-based NLP is a definite asset. The
applicant should have programming skills in Java and Perl as well as experience
with XML. S/he should be able to acquire relevant biomedical background
knowledge during the duration of the project. The applicant has a degree either
in computational linguistics or in computer science with a reasonable NLP
background.

Applicants should either be fluent in German or in English. Applicants without
German language competence are encouraged to acquire this skill on the job.
