Job Title: Senior Measurement Specialist
Division/Program: Language Testing Division (LTD)
Level of Appointment: Full time
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Position Available: Immediately

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: To provide measurement expertise and leadership to LTD and its test development activities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides measurement and research expertise to projects

Conceptualizes, designs, and conducts measurement-related research or technical assistance related to the testing of second language learners

Participates in ongoing CAL research on topics related to the testing of second language learners

Works collaboratively with project staff to organize activities needed to ensure the success of language testing projects, such as the investigation of new item types and assessment approaches, item analyses, DIF studies, studies investigating issues in reliability and validity, standard setting, rater training, and equating test forms

Serves as a resource to solve measurement-related issues in CAL's language testing and research projects

Prepares or assists in preparation of test documents, final reports and dissemination of results

Works collaboratively with project staff to develop new project concepts and assists in the preparation of proposals for funding of new projects

Makes presentations at training sessions, workshops, and professional conferences

Contributes measurement expertise to a wide range of activities addressing CAL's mission, including serving as a resource for other staff, developing materials for diverse audiences, and responding to questions from the public

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ph.D. in educational or psychological measurement or closely related field

Experience: Must have deep knowledge of all measurement aspects of the test development process, including item analysis, DIF studies, standard setting, quality control, equating, and item banking. Must have three to five years of increasingly responsible project work experience, preferably in test development. Must have the ability to prioritize work on several projects at the same time and have attention to detail. Must have proficiency in using statistical and measurement software; experience with SPSS, WINSTEPS and FACETS preferred. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Good communication skills in English required. Experience in language testing, foreign language education, or the language learning process is desirable.
