Ph.D. scholarships available at the University of Stuttgart

The graduate programme "Linguistic representations and their
interpretation" ("Linguistische Repräsentationen und ihre Interpretation")
is pleased to announce the availability of 7 doctoral scholarships. The
scholarships will start on September 1st, 2006. The positions are available
for 2 years but can be extended to 32 months (or even to 36 months subject
to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft granting extra funding once the
third term of funding for the graduate school has run out).

The graduate programme is a structured doctoral programme in linguistics
and computational linguistics at the University of Stuttgart.The
participating lecturers are: Artemis Alexiadou, Rainer Bäuerle, Gregorz
Dogil, Ulrich Heid, Klaus von Heusinger, Hans Kamp, Bernd Möbius, Jürgen
Pafel, Christian Rohrer, Hinrich Schütze and Achim Stein.

Applicants for the scholarships should:
be no older than 28 years of age;
hold a Diplom, an M.A., or an equivalent academic degree;
be able to read and understand English and German;
be prepared to take an active part in the work of the graduate school. This
includes both scientific work (lectures, seminars, workshops, etc.) and
organisational work.

Applications are accepted in German and English. Applications should contain:
- a letter of application (no formal requirements);
- the names, addresses, and e-mail addresses of two people who will send a
letter of reference. Please, arrange for the two letters of reference to be
sent directly to the Director of the programme (see below);
- a Ph.D. dissertation proposal, possibly written after a discussion with
your prospective supervisor in the graduate school (the proposal should
make reference to one of the projects of the programme);
- a CV including transcript, results of examinations, classes attended.

Applications of women are specifically invited. In the case of similar
qualifications, competence, and specific achievements, women will be
considered on preferential terms within the framework of the legal
possibilities. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will
be given preference.
