MAVIR (Improving the accessibility and visibility of multilingual
information in Internet for the Region of Madrid) is a research
consortium sponsored by the Community of Madrid. It is made up of an
interdisciplinary team constituted by scientific, technicians, linguists
and documentalists of several universities and one documentary centre,
who have joined together to carry out an integrated effort in the areas
of research, education and technology transfer in order to improve the
accessibility and visibility of multilingual and multimedia information
in the net.

The NLP&IR Group (http://nlp.uned.es/) is part of the LSI department at
UNED (Universidad de Educación a Distancia), and coordinator of the
MAVIR consortium.

We are looking for an experienced candidate to fill one position of PhD
researcher for a three years period with the following profile:

* PhD degree in computer science, computational linguistics, information
science, knowledge management or similar fields.

* Experience and/or good knowledge of areas such as Information
Extraction, Question Answering, Corpus Annotation, Document Clustering,
and Machine Learning techniques.

* Knowledge of Multimedia Indexing, Speech and Image Annotation, Speech
Recognition will also be considered.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a project.

* Proficiency in at least two European languages, being English one of them.

* Previous experience in European or International Projects


The position will provide opportunities to meet and collaborate with
other researchers not only in scientific tasks, but also in the proposal
of a Master's degree in Intelligent Access to Information. The aim is to
adapt the master to the Bologna Declaration and participate in the
'Erasmus Mundus' program.

final decision will be made by the end of June 2006 to start in
September 2006. The position is located in Madrid

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS

* There is no restriction on nationality however - candidates outside
the European 25 Member States, Associated Candidate States (Bulgaria,
Romania, Turkey) or Associated States (Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein,
Norway, Switzerland), should check for the general conditions to obtain
a residence permission in Spain.

An annual gross income of approximately 30000 euros will support the
position.
