Multiple research positions (PhDs, postdocs, seniors) in speech processing
at IDIAP Research Institute, Switzerland

IDIAP currently has several open positions for PhD students and postdocs
in speech
processing. We are also seeking one exceptional senior researcher with a
proven
record of high level research, as well as project management, in the areas
of speech processing and computer vision.

Activities in speech processing currently cover speech recognition
(using HMMs and hybrid HMM/ANN approaches), novel feature extraction and
acoustic modeling techniques, decoders for large vocabulary speech
recognition
systems, sound source localizaion and tracking (microphone arrays),
speaker turn detection, etc.

Most of these research activities take place in the framework of National
long term research initiatives such as the National Centre of Competence
in Research (NCCR) on "Interactive Multimodal Information Management"
(IM2, see www.im2.ch for more detail) or large European projects such,
e.g.,
as "Augmented Multi-party Interaction" (AMI, see www.amiproject.org for
more detail) or "Detection and Identification of Rare Audio-visual Cues"
(DIRAC, see www.diracproject.org).

Succesfull postdoc and senior candidates are expected to have several years
experience in the above areas, with good and practical knowledge of
C/C++ and
related programming languages (e.g., Perl, Java).

For senior researchers, while still being active in research,
they also have experience in project management and supervision of
researchers, including PhD students. Given the links between IDIAP
and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL),
academic careers can also be envisionned for exceptional candidates.
