Applications are invited for one doctoral half-time research position
(salary scale BAT IIa/2) until December 2008 in a research project on
'The Role of Semantic Fields in the Development of Postpositions and
Case Markers', funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German
Research Foundation) as part of the Sonderforschungsbereich 471
'Variation and evolution in the lexicon'. The successful applicant is
expected to undertake research toward a PhD in linguistics.
Project description:
This project sets out to trace the sources of modern case in several
South Asian languages in order to understand how the semantic fields
occupied by ancestral case markers (mostly postpositions and
participles) are mapped onto present day case systems.
More information about the SFB 'Variation and evolution in the
lexicon' may be obtained at:
http://ling.uni-konstanz.de/pages/proj/sfb471/index.html
Requirements:
Applicants should have an MA degree (or equivalent) in linguistics
or a related field (i.e., computational linguistics) and should
specialize in semantics. In particular, they should have an interest
in the semantics of case and adpositions (both pre- and postpositions)
and they should also be willing to engage in some empirical research
on some of the languages spoken in India.
Applicants should send a cover letter, a full CV and one sample
publication or paper to Miriam Butt via email
(Miriam.Butt@uni-konstanz.de) or at the address below.
Applications will be considered until September 1, 2006 (or beyond
if the position has not been filled by then). The positions are
available as of October 1, though a later start date can also be
negotiated.
The University of Konstanz is an equal opportunity employer and tries
