Speech Research Engineer, Virage SoftSound (Boston USA and Cambridge UK)



Virage SoftSound, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autonomy Corp., is
responsible for the ongoing research and development of speech products
within Autonomy. Virage SoftSound was founded in 1995 and uses technology
originally developed at Cambridge University. Virage SoftSound delivers
audio processing applications to enable live or recorded speech to be
manipulated, edited, searched and hyperlinked as easily as text. This is
achieved with a wide range of speech processing technologies from audio
segmentation and identification through to automatic speech recognition and
understanding.



Job Description

As a member of a small team of research and development engineers you will
work both independently and in teams developing algorithms and models for
large vocabulary speech recognition. Experience with speech recognition
systems and algorithms, especially acoustic and/or language model
development is essential. You will also need good C and Linux shell
scripting skills. Knowledge of Python and Perl would be advantageous.
Language/linguistic skills are also highly desirable.



In addition to the technical skills mentioned above, the successful
candidate will have a proven ability to work with minimal supervision as
part of a team located in both Boston MA and Cambridge UK, a proactive
personality, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Key Skills Understanding of speech recognition algorithms.

2+ years experience of acoustic and/or language modelling.

2+ years of C and Linux shell programming.

Post-graduate degree in numerate subject.

Excellent communication skills.

Additional Skills: Experience with HTK. Python and/or Perl
programming. Language/linguistic knowledge.

Salary: Commensurate with experience + discretionary share option plan.
