Research Associate

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on
a 21-month project investigating language use and deception. The project
seeks to broaden our understanding of verbal indicators of deception by
studying the language use of non-student populations over a range of
tasks. Its particular focus will be on testing and developing innovative
methods of linguistic analysis to capture such verbal indicators.

The successful applicant will contribute to study design, be responsible
for data collection and analysis, and play a key role in the dissemination
of research through journal publications and conference presentations. He
or she will also work closely with our software developer to build
applications for the analysis, and should anticipate being an active
member of a research group that has an expanding portfolio of research in
the cognitive-forensic area.

The post will suit a self-motivated individual with research experience
and strong interpersonal skills. You will be somebody holding or expecting
soon to hold a PhD in psychology or a cognate discipline. Experience in
managing and running field-based experiments, knowledge of forensic
psychology or forensic linguistics, and the ability to travel
independently, will be an advantage.

The post is for a fixed-term of 21 months starting as soon as possible.

Software Developer

We are seeking a Software Developer to join a project applying language
recognition and text-mining in the area of deception detection. The
project intends to develop innovative methods of identifying deception
through changes in individuals' language use. The successful applicant
will play an important role in both developing the methods and
implementing them in bespoke software.

The successful applicant will primarily be responsible for developing
small-scale software applications that allows the detailed analysis of
text, including the running of cutting-edge statistical models. They will
also have the opportunity to contribute to all aspects of the research,
including to the development of innovative methods of analysis, the
writing of journal publications, and the presentation of research at
European and international conferences. This is an excellent opportunity
to join a collaborative and successful research group that has an
expanding portfolio of public and private funded projects in a range of
forensic contexts.

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated, creative, and have
extensive experience of developing software applications suitable for
Microsoft Windows (although development can be in Unix or Windows). An
awareness of forensic psychology, forensic linguistic, and/or text
analysis is desirable. Earlier prototype versions of some software are
written in Perl, so familiarity with this language will also be useful.

This is a 12-month post starting as soon as possible.
