Hi Carl,
Microsoft is looking for 2 computational linguistics intern placement students to work on language technology for one year, from July 2008 to June 2009. These placements will be located in the Microsoft European Development Center in Dublin, Ireland.
One of the positions is to work on linguistic quality metrics and evaluation tools for spellers, grammars, thesauri and autocorrect lists and potentially also on controlled language and translation memory solutions and machine translation systems. The successful candidates will also help test the quality of new spellers for the Local Language Program which promotes minority languages through technology. We also have a position available focused on language technology integration in the translation process. Here we look at integrating recycling and translation memory with machine translation and post-editing.
For students with a passion for language and technology, this is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in the world of computational linguistics. To learn more about Microsoft language technology, please check out the following web link. It is a blog maintained by our team in the US who lead the charge in cutting edge technology, tools development and research - http://blogs.msdn.com/naturallanguage/default.aspx
Please see the attached job spec for more details. This position is open to all students at under-graduate and Masters level who can accommodate an intern placement within their studies. You are still eligible if your work placement occurs at the end of your studies.
If you think this is a suitable opportunity to gain work-experience for students in your institution we would be very grateful if you could circulate the attached job description. To apply the students must send a CV to coopjobs@microsoft.com. Please contact Michael Burke (miburke@microsoft.com) for any further information.
Thanks,
Mick.
