Software Engineer/Web applications developer (2-year contract)

The Centre for Health Informatics in Trinity College has a vacancy for a Software Engineer to work on a research programme funded by Irish Aid and the Higher Education Authority.

The programme, the Irish-African Partnership for Research Capacity Building , involves all 9 universities in Ireland and 4 in Africa . The successful candidate will be expected to design and implement a website for the consortium and also to run web surveys.

Applicants should have a degree in computer science, science or engineering. Strong web applications development skills are essential. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment would be an asset.

The appointment is for two years with salary in the region of AO3 per annum, according to qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the development of the interactive web portal which will include a digital library and an on-line questionnaire service. In addition for candidates with appropriate research experience, there will be an opportunity to participate actively in and contribute to the development of the ICT strand within the research programme. This an exciting opportunity for a creative software engineer with an interest in development.

The successful candidate must have:

• a degree or equivalent in computing or a related discipline;

• experience of developing web applications preferably using open source tools;

• excellent technical skills;

• experience of working as an effective member of a team;

• good communication skills;

• ability to work on own initiative

• be willing to travel to the partner countries in Africa .

Research experience and experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and an interest in development issues would be desirable.
