final approval of funding.
The scientific group at the center currently consists of about 40
researchers and PhD students. CASTL is responsible for a graduate school in
theoretical linguistics, and the advertised positions will be associated
with this school.
Our primary research activity is within generative grammar, especially
syntax and phonology, and we expect to hire 1-2 persons in each of these
two fields, depending on the evaluation of the applications. Applicants
must provide a description of the project which meets CASTL's research
profile as described at:
http://uit.no/castl or http://uit.no/castl/projects/
At least one of the positions will be connected to one of the three
following projects:

Phonological Features

Individuals hired in these positions are expected to follow the graduate
school program and to complete a doctoral dissertation. The application
should include a 5-7 page non-binding description of a potential
dissertation project. The application should also include documentation of
the applicant's relevant background.
The positions are fixed-term for four years with 25% administrative or
teaching duties each year.
Previous employment as a research fellow or in an equivalent recruitment
position will count as part of the education program, so that the total
number of years spent on the education program is three.
A more detailed plan for teaching, coursework and research will be
developed by the employee together with the research environment and/or
supervisor shortly after beginning the position. The successful applicant
will have to document competence in theoretical linguistics at the Master's
level. The applicant must be able to use English in his/her teaching and
research.
The salary for the positions follows the relevant Norwegian regulations for
public organizations (code 1017). A 2% contribution to the Norwegian
pension fund is obligatory.
The University of Tromsų wishes to recruit female researchers. In the event
that two or more applicants are found to be approximately equally
qualified, female applicants will be given priority.
The applicant must provide information and material that he/she wishes to
