The Parsing and Semantic group of XRCE concentrates on automatically
making sense of electronic documents, by semantically analyzing them.

One of its goal is to be able to retrieve or extract semantic
information from texts, in order to:
- refine disambiguation of word senses, named entities, etc.
- answer a user question about a domain covered by these texts
- extract statistical data from a set of documents
- automatically summarize a set of documents
- ...

To achieve these aims, the group is currently working on a common
knowledge representation for syntactic and semantic information
extracted from their existing tools. The successful candidate will be
integrated into this project, in charge of setting up and implementing
such a knowledge base, according to defined specifications.

He or she will have strong competence in knowledge representation,
databases, Java. An interest in natural language processing would be a plus.
