The Intelligent Support for Mathematical Generalisation (ISMG) project
is funded by the EPSRC/ESRC under the Teaching and Learning Research
Programme.
The project will aim to co-design, build and evaluate, with teachers and
teacher educators, a mutually supportive pedagogical and technical
environment for improving 11-14 year-old students? learning of
mathematical generalisation. The project will develop both a pedagogical
and technical environment, which consists of three components:
i. a microworld designed to promote learning through model-construction.
ii.an intelligent tool that provides personalised feedback during the
process of model construction, analysis and generalisation, adapted to
students? learning development and based on analyses of learners?
interactions in the microworld, and
iii. an intelligent tool for learners and teachers that fosters and
sustains an effective online learning community by providing assistance
to learners based on analyses of their own learning and the activities
of the group and advising learners and teachers as to which
constructions and reports of others to view, compare, critique and build
upon;
The project has 4 postdoctoral posts and 1 PhD studentship. More
