EPSRC-funded PhD studentships in Natural Language Technology
School of Computing, Mathematics and Information Sciences
University of Brighton

Applications are invited for a three-year EPSRC-funded PhD studentship
in Natural Language Technology at the University of Brighton, available
from October 2007.

The Natural Language Technology Group (NLTG) in the School of Computing,
Mathematics and Information Sciences (CMIS) has funding to support
students interested in pursuing research in natural language technology
to PhD level. You must have a good honours degree (2.1 or first) and
ideally a masters (MSc/MA) or equivalent in computer science,
computational linguistics, linguistics or a related discipline. Your
application should include an indication of a possible topic or area in
natural language technology research that you are interested in. You may
also include a more detailed project proposal if you wish. Example areas
(with possible supervisors) that we would particularly welcome include:

- Statistical approaches to language generation(Belz, Langkilde-Geary)
- Inheritance-based statistical languagemodelling (Evans)
- Lexical knowledge representation (Evans,Cahill)
- Analysing the subjective content of text(Genereux, Evans)

This is not an exhaustive list - if you have other ideas or have any
other academic enquiries, please contact Dr Roger Evans
(R.P.Evans@brighton.ac.uk) to discuss them. For further information
about this studentship, the Natural Language Technology Group and

Studentship details and eligibility

An EPSRC studentship has two components: payment of fees to the
university and payment of a stipend (a grant for living expenses) to the
