Software Engineer
Description
CHI seeks a Software Engineer that will be responsible for the design,
development and modification of a web based virtual environment which
provides a variety of services for children in hospital. The candidate
should be a self-motivated person who can work on their own initiative and
bring a broad range of skills from software design and development,
systems administration to basic computer maintenance. This position
offers much potential for a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate to play a
major part in the redesign and modification of this system. They should
be innovative, proactive in their communication style, ideas, and decision
making.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
The role involves being a key developer who has the ability to take
responsibility for systems development using some of the latest
technologies. The primary responsibility relates to two key projects
developed by the Centre - www.aiteile.ie and www.solas.ie, these web based
interactive portals provide a number of e-services and supports for
children in hospital. The candidate may also be required to work on other
projects in the Centre from time to time.
The successful candidate will be:
* Responsible for Systems design specification
* Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging and
documentation
* Able to deliver robust and scalable software solutions, incorporating
all aspects of the software development lifecycle
* Able to work as a part of a team
* Able to provide excellent level of IT support
Core Requirements and Skills:
* Good knowledge and experience of: Java, Javascript, J2EE, JSP,EJB,
Struts, Servlets, JDBC, SQL, HTML, Flash, Eclipse and Application Servers
(Orion/tomcat/jboss)..
* Have experience of mySQL server, Apache web server, IIS web server and
Windows Server administration
* Proven development experience
* Excellent technical design experience
* Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work around issues and be creative with regard to problem
solving.
* Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff.
* Willingness to keep informed of new technology solutions
* Proven experience of being a ‘teamworker’ who is both collaborative and
supportive
* Good documentation skills.
Personal Characteristics:
* Can work with detail to deliver a quality solution
* The ability to build rapport with the various teams involved
* Has the ability to take ownership of issues and design solutions
* Has the ability to use their initiative
Qualifications/Experience:
* Third level qualification in computer science or equivalent with minimum
three years of programming and analysis experience
* Demonstrated technical proficiency in the development, implementation,
and maintenance of systems gained through exposure to all aspects of
programming and analysis.
* Experience of Network Hardware including switches, routers and firewalls
an advantage.

Description
CHI has a number of ongoing research projects in the area of health
informatics, to enhance this work we seek a creative multimedia designer
with responsibility for the design and development of multimedia
interfaces and content. The candidate will be primarily responsible for
the design of the Interfaces and front end for a children’s interactive
web portal. The successful candidate will be highly talented, creative
and enthusiastic about multimedia and graphic design with an ability to
think creatively to produce new ideas. The position will involve working
as part of a team, and the candidate will also be required to develop and
manage web content for children. The candidate may also be required to
work on other projects in the Centre from time to time.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
The role involves being a key multimedia designer who has the ability to
take responsibility for all content management. The successful candidate
will also be:
* Responsible for Interface Design (coding and testing) on a web based
portal for children
* Designing / Coordinating online resources / events for children.
* Responsible for content management
* Responsible for associated websites for CHI projects
* Designing demonstrations / interactive presentations
* Designing accompanying documentation for the various projects (posters,
leaflets etc. )
Core Requirements and Skills:
* Experience in multimedia technologies including Macromedia Flash,
Actionscript, HTML and JSP, Css and stylesheets, Photoshop/Illustrator and
dreamweaver.
* Experience with Flash Communications Server would be an advantage.
* Experience and thorough understanding of usability standards for multimedia
* Proven design experience in a similar environment
* Ability to work around issues and be creative with regard to problem
solving.
* Willingness to keep informed of new technology solutions
* Good documentation skills.

Qualifications/Experience:
