Visualisation applied to medical histories.

The postholder will be part of an interdisciplinary team, working with NLP
researchers (Donia Scott and John Carroll) and a medical statistician
(Rosemary Tate).

The post will be funded on a grant by the Wellcome Trust to the Brighton
and Sussex Medical School and the Department of Informatics at the
University of Sussex, the Open University, the General Practice Research
Database and University College London. The post will be located in the
School of Informatics at Sussex and is expected to start on 1st January.

Research Fellow in interactive visualisation of electronic patient records

Grade 7 (£29,704 to £35,469 per annum)

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position at the University
of Sussex to join an interdisciplinary research team, funded by a Wellcome
Trust grant. The team is developing methods for enhancing the utility of
primary care electronic patient records for clinical and health services
research. You will develop a database and interactive visualisation tools
to help medical professionals to explore and inspect information on patient
histories stored in electronic patient records. This will involve setting
up the database and user-interface, and implementing prototypes for
visualisation tools that will allow users to inspect and interrogate the
records in an intuitive fashion. Integrating textual and graphical
summaries of the data will be an important part of this work.

Applicants should have previous experience in either database development
or data visualisation. The successful candidate may have the opportunity
to register for a DPhil.

This post, which is part of a joint collaboration between the Brighton and
Sussex Medical School and the Department of Informatics at the University
of Sussex, the Open University, the General Practice Research Database and
University College London, is funded by a project grant from Wellcome Trust
under the Joint Initiative in Electronic Patient Records and Databases in
Research Scheme, entitled "The ergonomics of electronic patient records".
