A vacancy has arisen for a Research Assistant to work on the Corpus of
Modern Scottish Writing (1700-1945). The AHRC (Arts and Humanities
Research Council) awarded a grant over three years (June 2007-May 2010)
for the development of an electronic corpus of Scottish literary and
non-literary texts from the period of 1700-1945. This corpus is to be
mounted on the Web and will be freely available to researchers,
educators and members of the public. The focus of the corpus is on Scots
and Scottish English. The appointee will work under the supervision of
the Glasgow grant-holders, Professor John Corbett and Professor Jeremy
Smith, and the Computing Officer, Mr Dave Beavan. The project team
includes a postgraduate research student, Mr Dorian Grieve, and
associated members of staff, including Mrs Jean Anderson, Dr Wendy
Anderson and Professor Christian Kay. The primary task of the Research
Assistant will be to support the grant-holders and Computing Officer in
maintaining the work-flow necessary to deliver the project targets
within the final 17 months of the funding period. The Research Assistant
will also contribute to the research outputs of the project.
