Applications are invited for a tenure-stream position at the rank of
Assistant Professor in Linguistics, Department of Humanities, University of
Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), to begin July 1, 2008. Candidates must have a
PhD in linguistics with specialization in sociolinguistics, with emphasis
on the linguistic construction of identity, especially gender and
ethnicity. Expertise in issues of multilingualism and multiglossia would
also be an asset, as would ability to engage in interdisciplinary and
transnational studies, particularly with respect to the Arab world. In
addition to undergraduate teaching, duties include graduate teaching and
supervision; applicants must demonstrate excellence in both research and
teaching. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The University of Toronto is a tri-campus university with a unitary
graduate department. UTSC is a research-intensive institution with an
interdisciplinary commitment and a multicultural student body speaking a
