Reed College seeks applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor
position in linguistics, with a focus on syntax and formal analysis, to
commence August 2008. In addition to syntax, a secondary specialization in
one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: typology and
cross-linguistic variation, field methods, morphology, phonology,
computational linguistics, or the structure of an under-documented language
or language family.

Reed College is a selective, undergraduate-only liberal arts institution
with a commitment to teaching excellence and scholarship. The appointee
will join a small but comprehensive undergraduate linguistics department
and offer five semester courses over the academic year. These will include
co-teaching the department's general linguistics course and offering
introductory courses in syntax and typology as well as at least one
upper-division course on syntactic theory. The position also involves
supervising yearlong senior thesis projects in a variety of research areas
within linguistics. PhD or ABD in linguistics required. Teaching and
research experience are highly desirable.
