The Linguistics Section at the University of Aberdeen is proud to announce
a new Masters programme: MLitt in Sociolinguistics.

The programme will include elements of both classic Variationist
Sociolinguistics and also the Sociology of Language, along with Historical
Linguistics. Students whose interests lie with languages other than English
are actively encouraged to apply; students wishing to research Scots or
English topics are equally welcome.

This programme builds upon our considerable strength in this field, as
witnessed by recently achieved sizeable external grants on subjects such as
lexical change in the Scottish fishing communities, Police communication
strategies and systems and the literary and linguistic outcomes of the use
of dialect in Scottish and Irish fiction.

If you are interested, please contact Dr Robert McColl Millar
(r.millar@abdn.ac.uk; +44-(0)1224-273909).
