The Centre for Translation Studies is offering a bursary to a suitably qualified
student who presents a convincing proposal for research into some aspect of
multimedia translation. The bursary covers registration fees at the UK/EU rate
and a stipend of £8,000 per annum. The successful candidate will be expected to
contribute to the EU-funded eCoLoMedia project, which is creating training
materials for multimedia translation. Initial funding is for a two-year period
(leading to a research Masters), but an appointee who progresses well will be
considered for three-year funding leading to a PhD.
You are expected to have: a strong academic or professional background in
translation, preferably multimedia translation, and native or near-native
competence in English. You will have good passive skills in two of French,
German and Spanish. You will have some experience of using software for
subtitling and/or localization and/or translation memory. Preference will be
given to candidates with teaching experience and good editing skills in English.
