PhD position "Automatic quality assessment of community-based learning material" at Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, Germany

The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab
(http://www.ukp.tu-darmstadt.de/) has an opening for a PhD position in the field of "Automatic quality assessment of community-based learning material". Recent trends towards community-based learning using informal, user-generated resources like Blogs and Wikis in combination with the conventional formal content such as course material have provided new momentum to NLP techniques for automatic quality assessment utilizing machine learning. The applicant will analyze structural and linguistic properties of collaboratively constructed community-based learning material, apply the existing and develop novel quality assessment algorithms in this domain and evaluate the results. The final goal is to support learners in finding high-quality learning content.

The successful applicants will join the UKP Lab situated in the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, Germany. The UKP features a dynamic work environment, a highly motivated and integrated research team, a substantial industrial cooperation network, and was distinguished by several research awards for its basic research since the establishment in summer 2006. The applicant's research will be conducted within an interdisciplinary Research Training Program (RTP) on E-Learning 2.0 funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The program emphasizes research on quality improvement in E-learning processes based on feedback loops. 16 PhD students and two PostDoc researchers work together in this RTP, along with about a dozen faculty and their respective research groups.
