Provide linguistic support in the design and maintenance of name searching
algorithms. Research specific name components and their cultural usage as
well as analyze a variety of user transliterations to determine patterns
within a large data set. Provide recommendations for name searching
techniques based on cultural-specific tendencies. Work with programmers,
testers and data quality team in evaluating user recommendations. May be
required to develop functional requirements for new linguistic name
searching algorithms. Will be asked to document analyses and designs in
appropriate formats, such as Impact Analyses and Critical Design Documents.
Must be able to develop white papers and presentations and deliver
presentations, if requested.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a master's degree in linguistics required with specialization in
one of the core areas (phonology, morphology, syntax) or computational
linguistics preferred. Experience with one or more of the following
required: transliteration systems, name structures, computational
linguistics, phonology, or morphology. Should have experience working with
non-Indo-European languages (Arabic, Turkic, or African languages,
preferred). Should have strong communication skills and be able to explain
complex linguistic concepts to non-linguists.
Experience with SQL, Perl and C++ highly desirable.
Must be an American citizen. Must be able to qualify for a secret
clearance. Must be willing to support a 24/7 site as needed. Occasional
travel outside the United States is required.
2-3 years of experience preferred.
