Position: Researcher (half-time, optionally combined with a PhD)
Topic: Linguistic Database for Information Structure
Place: Humboldt-Universit?t Berlin

As of March 1st, 2009 we have an opening for a half-time researcher (BAT
IIa) who will work on a an extension and adaptation of the corpus system
Annis (developed at the University of Potsdam and the
Humboldt-University, Berlin) to integrate richly annotated corpora of
Old High German and Middle High German.
The position optionally offers the possibility to obtain a Ph.D.

The responsibilities of the successful candidate include.
- extending the design and implementation of an innovative state of the
art linguistic database
- joint work with researchers on historical stages of German, assessing
their needs and devising solutions for specific research problems
- providing tools for quality assurance of data annotation, compliance
checks and text processing

Qualifications we seek:
- solid knowledge of XML processing techniques
- solid knowledge of (open-source) relational databases
- experience with web-programming and scripting (PHP, Python, etc.)
- experience with annotating linguistic data, tools for annotation and
retrieval
- team spirit and the ability to cooperate with diverse partners
- keen interest in information structure, in whatever languages, would
be a plus

The job runs until the end of 2011 with a possibility of an extension.
