The University of Kentucky seeks a linguist specializing in the
computational modeling of language systems (phonological, morphological,
syntactic and/or semantic). Teaching responsibilities will be entirely
within the University's interdepartmental Linguistics Program and will
include courses at the introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate
levels; teaching load is two courses per semester. Position is tenure-line
at the assistant professor level. The department in which the candidate
will have her/his appointment is negotiable; at present, general linguists
are housed primarily in the English Department. Evidence of successful
scholarship and promise of successful teaching required; evidence of
engagement with current theoretical frameworks a plus. Doctorate in
Linguistics required at the time of appointment.

The University of Kentucky's Linguistics Program is a research-active
environment with a history of synergy between linguistics and computer
science; existing research groups focus on morphological theory & typology
and on minority languages. See www.as.uky.edu/linguistics. The University
provides generous start-up funding, funds for research and travel, and the
possibility of negotiated course releases.

Please send letter of application, CV, a single representative research
paper, and three letters of recommendation. We encourage submission by
e-mail, to the address gstump@uky.edu. All electronically submitted files
should be in PDF format. Electronic letters of recommendation should be
followed up with signed paper copies to the address below.

Position open until filled. Review of applications will begin on January 4,
2010. Because we will conduct some preliminary interviews at the LSA
meeting in January 2010, you should indicate in your letter of application
whether you plan to attend the LSA meeting. Appointment begins August 2010.

The University of Kentucky is strongly committed to diversity; minority and
women candidates are encouraged to apply.
