Doegen Web Project Postgraduate Internships ? 3 posts

(12 Week Fixed Term Contract)

The Doegen Records Web Project is one of two Academy Digital Resource
projects, which is funded under cycle four of the Programme for Research in
Third Level Institutions (PRTLI). Based in Academy library, the Doegen
Project aims to transfer 216 recordings of Irish speech in Munster,
Connacht and Ulster to the web. These recordings were made by Dr.Wilhelm
Doegen, Director of the Lautabteilung, Preussische, Staatsbibliothek,
Berlin during the period 1928-31, under the Department of Education
initiative, which was organised and administered by the Academy. The
recordings comprise of versions of stories, songs, prayers and other
miscellaneous items. The RIA now invites applications for the following
fixed term contract positions with the Doegen Web Project:

Postgraduate Internships ? 3 posts (Fixed Term Contract ? 12 Weeks)

Reporting to the Postdoctoral Researcher, the Postgraduate Intern will be
responsible for:

* Transcribing a set of the Doegen recordings for input to the web using
dialectal spelling;
* Assist in researching contextual data for the wider objectives of the
project, as time permits;

The Interns may also be required to engage in other project-related
activities and attend workshops, seminars and conferences.

The successful candidates will have a third level degree in Irish and must
currently be registered for a postgraduate degree in Irish. In addition
he/she will be fluent in at least one of the dialects of Ulster, Connacht
or Munster. An aural test will be administered to short-listed candidates.
The successful candidates will also have excellent communication skills and
IT skills.

Salary Scale: ?23,015 per annum.

The closing date for applications is Thursday, 23rd April 2009. Applicants
will be short listed on the basis of the information provided in their

week commencing Monday 11th May 2009. An aural test will be administered to

St. Patrick?s Confessio Hypertext Stack Activity Postgraduate Internship

(12 Week Fixed-Term Contract)

The St Patrick?s Confessio Hypertext Stack Activity is one of two ?Academy
Digital Resources? projects which are funded under Cycle Four of the
Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI-4); they operate
in collaboration with the Digital Humanities Observatory (further
information on which may be found at www.dho.ie). The St. Patrick?s
Confessio HyperStack is based on an existing searchable, full-text database
(ACLL, the Archive of Celtic-Latin Literature), and is being built up into
a virtual research environment so as to present, on the web, key stages in
the text-history of iconic works found therein. Commencing with St
Patrick?s Confessio, a facsimile of the principal manuscript witness is
being supplemented by several layers of significant contextual material,
including the corresponding passages as they appear in diplomatic
transcription, in critical editions, and in translation. The Latin writings
of St. Patrick have been chosen because they are of crucial importance for
Irish history and ecclesiastical culture.

The RIA now invites applications for the following fixed-term contract
position with the Hypertext Stack, to begin in June 2009 (dates are to
some degree flexible):

Postgraduate Internship ? (Fixed-Term Contract ? 12 Weeks)

* The Task: Reporting to the Postdoctoral Researcher, Franz Fischer, the
Postgraduate Intern will help implement the plan to construct the hypertext
stack described above. The Postgraduate Intern will also be involved in
assisting with the dissemination of information on the project and its
promotion, and may be required to participate in some related workshops.
* Qualifications and Experience: Some experience of digital humanities
computing will be required, and an ability to read insular medieval script.
The successful candidate will have a meticulous eye for detail, and a
willingness to communicate the project in seminar or similar
settings.Postgraduate Interns must be registered at a PRTLI-eligible
third-level institution at the time of taking up the internship.
* Salary: A salary of ?23,015 per annum will be offered on a pro rata
basis. PRSI is payable at the A1 rate.

FIONTAR

Digital Humanities ? Irish Language

Research Fellowships

FIONTAR is offering three full-time research fellowships from autumn 2009
in the field of Irish-Language Digital Humanities.

Fiontar manages and develops www.focal.ie, www.logainm.ie, and the Irish
terms on www.iate.europa.eu. Resources for legal terminology are also being
developed from existing statutory instruments. The three research
fellowships will be on the FIONTAR team which develops the terminology and
placenames resources. Irish is the working language. Fellowships will be
filled at a MA/PhD/post-PhD level depending on the qualifications of the
applicant.

Research fellowship MA ( 2 years) on ?16,000 per year plus registration
fees.
Research fellowship PhD (3 years) on ?16,000 per year plus registration
fees.
Research fellowship post-PhD (2 years) on ?31,745 per year.


Requirements
Candidates must hold an honours degree in Irish (minimum 2:1). According to
the research field, a qualification or experience in the area of law,
multimedia, computational linguistics or archiving may be desirable.
