The Role - This 27 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Portf=
olio Metrica Limited and the University of Hertfordshire is a unique opport=
unity for a recently qualified Machine Learning/Computational Linguistics e=
xpert to develop an automated media analysis system to address the increasi=
ngly diverse expansion of publications and online social media.

The Company - Portfolio Metrica is an international media analysis, PR plan=
ning and market research company. Its service allows huge volumes of media =
coverage to be analysed and reported as clear and concise management inform=
ation. As a result, organisations can gain rapid, regular and in-depth inte=
lligence on how media are likely to influence target audiences, both in the=
UK and overseas.

Candidate Profile - Ideally, you will have a post-graduate level of study (=
or near to completion) in the area of machine learning or computational lin=
guistics. You will have knowledge of data mining, coupled with skill at usi=
ng data-mining software such as WEKA. Good programming skills in a dynamic =
language, such as Ruby will be an advantage. It would be beneficial for the=
Associate to have some knowledge of how a business functions. This knowled=
ge might have been obtained either through study or through employment (pos=
sibly on an industrial placement). You will need to be able to reason in a =
logical way, both to develop the algorithms and to create software to perfo=
rm these routines. The Associate will need to be able to objectively evalua=
te and articulate solutions to problems. The successful candidate must be a=
ble to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds=
and be fully proficient in the English language, particularly with respect=
to nuances, colloquialisms and sentiment.

The University - The KTP Associate will be employed by the University of He=
rtfordshire but will be based mostly at the Metrica premises in London, SE1=
