The Psycholinguistics Group in the Department of Computational Linguistics
at Saarland University, Saarbruecken, Germany, invites applications for two
post-doctoral positions ('wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter'). The positions
are available from April 1st, 2010, although there is some flexibility in
the start date. Applicants should posses a strong background in
psycholinguistics, have published in international journals and
conferences, and hold a PhD in a relevant discipline. Successful candidates
will contribute substantially to ongoing research and teaching activities
in psycholinguistics, and participate in developing future research
directions. The specific profile for each of the positions is as following:
1. Neurolinguistics: the successful candidate will have extensive
experience with EEG/ERP methods for psycholinguistic research, and play a
leading role is coordinating our new EEG lab. Interest in the use of ERPs
for the investigation of visually situated spoken language comprehension is
further desired.
2. Experimental/Computational Psycholinguistics: the successful candidate
will have experience with eye-tracking methods for investigating language
processing (both for written and spoken language comprehension) and/or a
strong profile in cognitive computational modeling of language learning and
language processing. Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis and
modeling techniques is also desired.
Both positions will involve some teaching, contribution to student
supervision, and some administrative duties. The duration of the
appointment is two years in the first instance, with the possibility of
extension.
The Psycholinguistics Group, under the direction of Prof. Matthew Crocker,
is actively engaged in both experimental and computational modeling
research on sentence comprehension. The unit has numerous state-of-the-art
eye-tracking laboratories, a new 64 channel EEG/ERP lab, and modern
computing infrastructure. The group's research places particular emphasis
on situated language processing and acquisition. The working language is
English, but some knowledge of German is an asset.

Saarbruecken University is a leading centre for language research and
offers a dynamic and stimulating environment. Close cooperations exist with
other disciplines (psychology, computer science and artificial
intelligence). The institute is committed to excellence in teaching,
offering an international MSc program in 'Language Science and Technology'
(taught in English). The Psycholinguistics Group also participates in the
Excellence Cluster 'Multimodal Computing and Interaction'
(http://www.mmci.uni-saarland.de/), recently established by the German
Research Foundation (DFG) within the framework of the German Excellence
Initiative.
The appointment will be made on the German TV-L E13 scale (approx. 35K
