Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship
POSITION AS POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (SKO/post code 1352)
is available at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages, University of Oslo.
The post-doctoral research fellow position is funded by the Norwegian
Research Council and is associated with the project Information
Structure and Word Order Change in Germanic and Romance Languages
(project no. 196926/V20).
The fellowship period is 3 years.
Information Structure and Word Order Change in Germanic and Romance
Languages is a four-year project funded by the Norwegian Research
Council. The aim of the project is to study the interplay between word
order and information structure, diachronically and synchronically, in
three Germanic (English, German, Norse/Norwegian) and three Romance
(Spanish, French, Portuguese) languages.
The post-doctoral research fellow will be responsible for either the
Spanish or the French part of the project. The project implies some
corpus annotation, using the annotation system of the PROIEL project
(http://www.hf.uio.no/ifikk/proiel/), and the candidate will be
expected to devote some of her/his time to this work. The work place
is Oslo, and the candidate must be an active member of the project
group.
Requirements:
· A doctoral degree in either Spanish or French language history.
The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation
by the closing date.
· The candidate should have knowledge of at least one of the other
languages, in addition to English, and be able to study
languages from a comparative point of view.
Applicants must submit a project description of max. 2500 words, which
describes the candidate’s intended contribution to the main

The appointee will be expected to engage in existing research groups
in the Faculty of Humanities and to contribute to the further
development of the academic community.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify
researchers for work in higher academic positions within their
disciplines.
In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the
quality of the project description and on the assumed academic and
personal ability on the part of the candidates to complete the project
within the given time frame. Short-listed applicants may be invited
for an interview at the University of Oslo.
