The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH),

Saarbr?cken, Bremen, and Berlin is the leading German research
institute in the field of innovative
software technology.

DFKI is seeking for its Language Technology Lab
(http://www.dfki.de/lt) in Saarbr?cken a

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Researcher / Software Engineer

to work with us in the project TAKE (Technologies for Advanced
Information Extraction). The
project deals with natural language processing (NLP) and natural
language semantics representation
to investigate and implement next-generation science information
systems, with a focus on semantic
search in scientific papers.

Responsibilities include application-oriented research in the area of
NLP for science information
systems, the supervision of student assistants and master's theses, as
well as assistance in the
conception and acquisition of new research projects.

An ideal candidate will have a PhD or MSc/Diploma in computational
linguistics or computer
science and a strong background and experience in most of the following areas:

- Machine learning, statistical methods for natural language processing
- Grammar-based approaches to natural language processing and robust
semantics representation
of natural language
- Scalable OWL/RDF technologies
- Excellent software engineering and programming skills in Java,
Python, AJAX/GWT
- Good oral and written command of English is required as well as the
ability to read and write
scientific papers and technical documents.

Highly valued personal qualities include team spirit, creativity,
self-motivation, and the ability to
communicate ideas clearly, combined with a determination to meet project goals.

The initial duration of the contract will be until December 2011.
