Lecturer in Chinese Language & Culture (3 Year full-time contract)

As an integral part of its continuing development of Chinese Studies, the
School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) seeks to
appoint a suitably qualified person to undertake lecturing, research and a
leadership role in Chinese language and culture within the School.

The School particularly welcomes applications from candidates who combine
expertise in Chinese Studies with one of the other research specialisms
offered in the School - Intercultural Studies, Translation Studies,
Language Studies, Comparative Literature Studies - and/or Ethnographic
Research Methodology.

Applicants for this post are expected to have a relevant doctoral degree
(or near completion), appropriate teaching experience and a good record of
post-doctoral activities in related research and publication. Candidates
should have native-speaker-like proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and
demonstrable experience of teaching and research in Chinese Studies at
university level. The successful candidate will be expected to provide
leadership in developing the teaching and research agenda for Chinese
Studies within the School.

Chinese Studies is a relatively new discipline within the School, having
been introduced at undergraduate level in September 2008. The first cohort
of undergraduate students taking Chinese will travel to China in September
2010 to spend Year 3 of their degree programme studying at a Chinese
University. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate and
monitor the students' Year Abroad experience, and to actively develop
further exchange links within China.

The successful candidate will be expected to make an important contribution
to the research and teaching profile of the School, as well as to undertake
significant administrative responsibilities. In accordance with the
multilingual nature of the School and its interdisciplinary ethos, the
successful candidate will also be expected to collaborate with colleagues
in other areas on interdisciplinary projects of mutual interest.

Salary Scale: Lecturer below bar: 41,502 - 51,724 Euros
Lecturer above bar: 50,159 - 81,403 Euros
