2 March: fyi -- NL generation, NL

Dear colleague,
We have a vacancy for a Postdoc (two years, full time) working on the generation of referring expressions. The following are possible themes for the current position (which can be addressed from a computational and/or an experimental perspective):
- How does visual perception influence the production of referring expressions?
- How do speakers decide on the form (e.g., pronoun, name or description) and linguistic realization (verbal and non-verbal) of referring expressions?
- How to account for non-determinism and individual variation in reference production?
- When and how do human speakers produce complex descriptions (e.g., plurals, quantified descriptions, relational descriptions)?
- What is the influence of common ground and shared/private information on reference?
- How do social and contextual factors influence reference production and understanding?
- How might these various influences be integrated into a psychologically realistic computational model of reference production?
Details about the project can be found here. More about the application procedure can be found here.
Kind regards,
