Lectureship in Applied Linguistics

Post Summary

The School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences wishes to
appoint a lecturer in applied linguistics with developed expertise in
second language acquisition, particularly in relation to the learning
and teaching of English as an additional language. The person
appointed will contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate
teaching of the Centre for Language and Communication Studies (CLCS)
in these areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach on
the CLCS M.Phil programmes in applied linguistics and English language
teaching. She or he will increase Trinity College's research strength
in applied linguistics. Information about the School is available at

Background to the Post

CLCS combines the functions of a language centre with those of an
academic department of linguistics and speech science. As an academic
department CLCS is particularly active at postgraduate level, with
around 40 research students and four taught Masters programmes. It is
also responsible for the linguistics component of the B.A. in Computer
Science, Linguistics and a Language and provides course modules in
linguistics and modern languages for students across the
university. Its state-of-the-art language learning facilities and
large collection of language learning resources are used for class
teaching by the modern language departments and are also open to all
members of the university for self-access learning.

CLCS has long established research and teaching strengths in applied
linguistics. One of its strategic aims is to develop a focus in
English applied linguistics. The Centre currently offers taught M.Phil
degrees in applied linguistics and in English language teaching and
has an increasing number of doctoral students in this area.
