The query re-writing team in Bing is chartered with solving one of the
hardest problems in building a search engine i.e. understanding a
user’s intent and then transforming the queries that are in a language
that is natural to end users into a language that is natural to
content producers on the internet. This space requires having a deep
understanding of users and their scenarios in addition to tackling
some really hard algorithmic challenges.

Query Re-writing is one of the last frontiers contributing to a
competitive gap in Bing’s relevance. As such, this area is critical to
Bing’s success along with having high visibility and impact across the
org. Our team is driving a renewed effort to solve this problem and
drive significant relevance gains in Bing.

We are looking for extremely smart, energetic and technical program
managers to help us with this effort.

As a member of this team, you will have a direct impact on the quality of our search results which in turn determines the experience of 100 million user searches every day. Some of the areas that you will work on as part of the team will be
User scenario identification and opportunity sizing
Algorithm design, machine learning and data mining
User intent understanding and Entity Extraction
Exploration of metrics and measurement techniques
Techniques to optimize query re-writing for incremental impact on our web-ranker
Experimentation infrastructure & techniques
Designing fast, scalable and reliable distributed systems

Other core requirements for this role include
Technical competence (algorithms, data structures) strong analytical skills and solid academic record. Experience in information retrieval, data mining, and machine learning is a plus but not required.
Strong level of experience in end to end software development lifecycle (from design/planning to execution, shipping and maintenance)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
We are open to considering exceptional developer or test candidates without prior experience in a PM role

Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills
Strong communications skills (both verbal and written)
Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and drive hard decisions across teams
Must be level headed and able to deal with constant change

Qualifications
BA/BS in Computer Science preferred; MS/PhD (or equivalent) or related engineering experience a plus
