The successful candidate will closely collaborate with other members of
LUCL and especially with members of the department of Latin American
Studies who are involved in language teaching.
Tasks:
-Teaching and developing courses in Latin American linguistics (Spanish
linguistics, but knowledge of Brazilian-Portuguese linguistics will be
considered an advantage) and Spanish language acquisition in the department
Latin American Studies.
-Participation in developing the linguistics curriculum of LUCL, and
implementation of innovative concepts for language teaching.
-Research in Latin American linguistics and supervision of BA, MA and PhD
theses.
-Participation in ongoing research at LUCL, acquisition of research grants
at the national and international level.
-Managerial and organizational responsibilities in LUCL and the department
of Latin American Studies.
Requirements:
-A PhD in Spanish and/or Latin American linguistics. Candidates who also
have knowledge of Brazilian-Portuguese linguistics will be given preference.
-Excellent research qualities, and research experience in the study of
Spanish language variation in Latin America.
-Demonstrable commitment to high-quality teaching practice, and the ability
to teach Latin American linguistics and Spanish language acquisition.
-An interest in and preferably experience with research-driven teaching.
-Proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations).
-Near-native speaker of Spanish.
-Non-Dutch nationals are expected to fluently speak Dutch within two years
after their appointment.
Upon appointment, depending on experience to date, the Assistant Professor
may be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills
certification trajectory (BKO or Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs), successful
completion of which is a condition for extensions and tenure.
We offer:
The position is for 1.0 fte (38 hrs) as Assistant Professor (Universitair
Docent 2), for 2 years, with the possibility of another 3 years, and after
that tenure. The salary depends on qualifications and experience, and
ranges from € 3.195,- to € 4.374,- per month, commensurate with
qualifications, with additional holiday and end-of-year bonuses. Candidates
from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
