The General Linguistics Department at the University of Zurich invites
applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. The field of
specialization is in statistical approaches to areal/historical and/or
corpus-based typology (in the broadest sense, including also for
example cross-linguistic research in language acquisition or
anthropological linguistics). The regional focus is open, but work on
the Americas, on Eurasia or on a global scale is particularly
welcome. The successful candidate is expected to develop his or her
own research agenda in close collaboration with other members of the
department and the wider linguistics community in Zurich, and possibly
extending to colleagues in other fields.
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. thesis in linguistics, should
be familiar with typological research and quantitative methods and
should have an excellent command of (academic) English. (Fluency in
German is desirable but not necessary).
Terms of employment: the position is initially offered for one year,
but can be extended beyond this. The position also includes teaching
obligations between 2 and 4 hours per week. (The exact extent and
terms can be negotiated.)
