Closing Date: 15th May 2015

Post Status: 4 years

Department: ADAPT Centre, School of Computer Science and Statistics, Trinity College Dublin

Research Topic

This PhD will investigate the application of text classification and develop methods for problems of semantic classification associated with the assessment of whether and which texts in a data set refer to the same events, albeit at (probably) distinct levels of granularity and levels of detail of description. These classifications will then be integrated with the event representations based on finite state technology, in support of representation of events and reasoning with these representations as appropriate to the choice of domain, modality of expression, and contextual focus of text authors.

This post is within the "Platform Theme A: Understanding Global Content" of the SFI-funded ADAPT centre at Trinity College Dublin. This theme focuses on researching robust, domain-agnostic, linguistic analysers, which can be applied to any language and are informed by cues from non-linguistic sources.
